Prof. Dr. Metin Orhan graduated from Ege University Faculty of Dentistry in 1985. He then received specialist training in the Department of Orthodontics at Selçuk University and earned his specialist title in 1990. He completed his doctoral studies in 1996 and received his doctorate in Orthodontics with his thesis titled "Determination of natural head position in cephalometric radiographs using targeted mirror method".

Prof. Dr. Metin Orhan served as a member of the Board of Directors of TÜBİTAK between 2018-2021. He was the founding dean of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Dentistry between 2014-2020 and also served in important positions such as Head of the Department of Orthodontics at Selçuk University Faculty of Dentistry 1997-1999 and Vice Dean 1997-1998.
